How have Digitalization Impacted Events?

With the COVID-19 pandemic, digitalization has now become a big part of our lives. More have become reliant on technologies to continue social interactions. Corporate meetings and events are moved online while employers work from home. With the uncertainty of the COVID-19 situation and the ever-changing COVID-19 regulations, many corporates have opted for a virtual or hybrid event. As such, the usage of technologies has become more relevant in events, where the adoption of technologies will allow a sense of freshness to traditional physical events.

1. Adoption of Virtual Streaming Platforms

To allow participants to participate in events virtually, the usage of online streaming platforms has significantly increased. Platforms such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, YouTube and Facebook are commonly used.

Each of the platforms may depend on the target audience you are targeting as different ones are familiar with different platforms and there are different features across the platforms. Such factors would impact one’s decision on choosing the appropriate platforms.

In addition, there has been increasing use of other virtual event platforms whereby these highly customizable platforms allow one to integrate any application and tools, making it convenient for all the attendees.

2. Adaptation of Live Performances

Many live performances were canceled due to the pandemic and many had to go virtual to continue their livelihood. However, this means more preparation and technical backend for the performers to ensure that the same quality of performance is shown to the audience. In addition, not all performances can be transited to a virtual one and performers need to find alternatives to adapt to the current situation.

Nonetheless, there is still a wide range of virtual live performances for you to choose from for your virtual events. Some of such performances include Magic Show and Comedy Show whereby the magician and comedian are still able to perform and interact with the audience.

3. Adaptation of Recreational Activities

Limitations to social interactions have resulted in recreational activities being unable to operate for a large capacity. One such example would be a physical escape room where the number of people allowed in has been reduced. Concerns regarding sanitary issues may arise as well.

With the use of technology, there has been a rise of virtual escape rooms for everyone to participate and challenge themselves virtually, from the comfort of their homes. These virtual escape rooms provide participants the opportunity to bond and communicate with their peers while staying safe. Individuals have also used virtual games as an alternative for them to spend time with family and friends across the globe.

In conclusion, digitalization has impacted events greatly since the pandemic occurred, allowing us to switch to virtual and hybrid events so that events can still take place.
